Hitachi Air Compressor

Hitachi Air CompressorBefore I found this Hitachi air compressor I had no idea the Hitachi brand made an air compressor at all. This was despite the fact that I knew Hitachi to be well known for its electronics, but less so for its power tools. At first I wondered if I should stick it out for a brand that actually specializes in air compressors and/or power tools but as I read more, I realized I was going to get more value for my money by going with this type of machine. The EC12 Hitachi compressor is backed by the large Hitachi brand name which has been instrumental in providing me technical support further along the line. The only other two rivals that you should consider for a relatively small air compressor for home use would be Dewalt and Makita, although you should not be biased towards these two simply because they are slightly better known in the field of power tools, as opposed to consumer electronics like Hitachi. There is very little difference either way between the average air compressor reviews left for Hitachi air compressors as opposed to counterparts from Dewalt and Makita.

Features:

  • Weighs 60 pounds for easy portability
  • Cylinders are made out of cast iron
  • 4 gallon oiled twin hot dog with a carrying handle for easy movement
  • Uses Dewalt synthetic compressor oil and pressure regulator
  • 4 cfm at 90 psi
  • A warranty of one year
  • Efficient air delivery system for all types of tools
  • Gauges point upwards for easier reading when you are working
  • Designed to last longer than the pancake type compressors
  • Simple “off” and “auto” switch so you save the life of the motor.

From the minute I took the Hitachi air compressor out of the box I was surprised. Despite its sturdy construction it was lighter than I thought it would be. I could easily see how I could tote this air compressor around without throwing out my back or causing any damage to the flooring and surrounding areas. I love the stability of the feet. The added bars underneath give it a wider base and make it sturdier than many of the other air compressors on the market. The Hitachi compressor comes with rubber feet that protect whatever surface you place the compressor on.

The rubber handle make the Hitachi air compressor easy to carry – the best air compressor to carry in all my pneumatic power tool experience. It is centrally weighted so that you don’t feel as though it is awkward to carry. I really love that the gauges face upwards. Many air compressors put them on the side, which seems like a good idea but it isn’t if you don’t have the compressor on a shelf of some sort. I tend to put the Hitachi air compressor on the ground so the upward facing dials allow me to easily see all the totals. I am able to monitor the pressure no matter what I am working on.

I do find that the regulator mounting makes it difficult to actually hook up two hoses at the same time. They are a little too close together in order to make it practical. I am hoping that on a later model they will fix this issue. I have knocked hoses off very easily and it makes quite the racket. I like how sturdy this machine is. The extended base keeps the vibration at a minimum. I have never had an air compressor that stays so solidly on the ground. I believe Hitachi has made a better air compressor motor and a better casing than some of the other, more popular brands. Again, I give credit to the wider base. I have never had a compressor that gave this added structural security and I believe it makes all the difference. I think Hitachi has found a way to make the air compressor easier to use and it isn’t even that loud. I do wish it was slightly quieter as I have heard ones that make less noise, but I think everyone expects noise when they are using compression tools!

Portable Air Compressor

Portable Air CompressorThe Ingersoll portable air compressor is built to last from the stainless steel braded line, brass fittings and copper lines to the high quality air filter. You should only ever have to buy one compressor of this size and it can go just about anywhere you want it to go. The handle is quite sturdy, so even though the unit itself is not especially light, you can easily take it around without too much effort. The motor is quieter than many of the other motors on these types of portable air compressors. (Only perhaps the Makita MAC2400 has been quieter in our testing.) This means that you can use this Ingersoll air compressor even at unsociable hours, or in places which are sensitive to excess noise. The oil lubrication facilitates a far longer lifespan than the cheaper pancake models, and all buyers are backed by the Ingersoll brand, specialists in power tools for over a century. If you are looking for something slightly more powerful and longer lasting than a pancake air compressor and don’t mind the occasional oil maintenance, then this Ingersoll Rand P1U-A9 model is one of the best air compressors currently available.

Buy the Ingersoll portable air compressor on Amazon with free shipping. You can make a total of $118.72 savings off the original price.

This Ingersoll air compressor has a multitude of features, including:

  • 2 horsepower motor
  • 135 psi maximum
  • 4.3 cfm capacity at 90 psi and 3.2 cfm capacity at 135 psi
  • Uses 115 volts and 15 amps
  • Ergonomic design so you can carry it easily
  • Weighs 77 pounds
  • Oil-lubricated pump for a longer lasting motor
  • Operation panel is on the front of the unit so you can read it more easily
  • Reliable name around since 1871
  • Compact size so it is easy to store
  • Fully balanced crank shaft to help the compressor work for longer
  • Four gallon tank so you should be able to use the compressor for a long time without having to recharge

This is a strong compressor that is consistent. I find I can work it with any piece of wood and any tools I need to use. The strong motor gives lots of torque on my wrenches and the consistent pressure keeps anything from ever slipping. I can work on big projects or finishing projects with this portable air compressor. I believe that everything is strong and easy to use. The external shell protects the motor and the air compressor. Reading the other air compressor reviews for this Ingersoll Rand model, it seems that my own experience is consistent with the general customer base using the P1U-A9.

While the lists claim that the gauges are easy to read, I find them a little small to read easily. The front mount gauges are perfect if you plan to keep this portable air compressor on a table but they are not convenient if you set the compressor on the ground. I find that I rarely have enough table space to keep my compressor at that level which means I am constantly stooping down to see the settings. I usually need a light with me. While this is a bit frustrating, the portable air compressor works so well, I am willing to put up with this mild inconvenience. You can replace the gauges, though I haven’t found any that I like enough to replace them with yet. The company does not recommend it, but I have heard people have done it to make them easier to read.

I have always liked the Ingersoll Rand name and the customer service was quite easy to deal with. My order was missing a user’s manual, which they instantly sent out to me overnight. I was thrilled that I could get such great customer service and so quickly. However this is little surprise given that Ingersoll Rand is so famous and has been around so long. Other air compressor reviews for Ingersoll Rand recount similar positive experiences directly with the manufacturer, even when the manufacturer was not necessarily obligated to help, they always try their best.

The feet on this portable air compressor keeps it steady while you are working. I have no fear putting it on the floor in the house or anywhere else. It stays smooth and causes no markings on the ground even though it is constantly vibrating. I believe the Ingersoll Rand P1U-A9 is possibly the best air compressor for the home under $300 (after discounts). I have a feeling it will last as long as I need it without any major maintenance or replacement. Keeping the oil up to date is probably the biggest maintenance worry and something you should be careful with.

DEWALT D55146

DEWALT D55146Boasting average air compressor reviews of 4 out of 5 stars over a massive 55 individual ratings, the Dewalt D55146 is an all purpose portable air compressor that packs quite a punch. It can be used for use in the home as well as moderate to medium demand usage in construction. Those who are starting a construction business and are unsure as to their pneumatic needs often find that the DD55146 is the best air compressor for their needs as it accommodates both intricate, detailed tasks which require a lot of mobility, as well as some of the more demanding professional jobs. The main unique selling point of the Dewalt D55146 in addition to its power has to be its portability in spite of the aforementioned power, largely a result of its novel set of wheels.

Buy the Dewalt D55146 on Amazon right now and get 56% off!

The D55146 boasts a healthy selection of features:

  • 200 PSI maximum tank storage pressure
  • 5.2 scfm at 90 psi makes the compressor to have a faster recovery time after the initial charge is exhausted
  • 80% more usable air than other compressors
  • Collapsible handle for easy storage and transportation by working in the vertical position
  • EHP efficient high pressure pump technology for longer motor and pump life
  • Quiet motor coming in a 78dB
  • 2 hose outputs
  • Non-flat foam tires of 10 inches, so you can easily move the compressor around
  • Easy to read gauges
  • Roll bar protection
  • Solid frame construction

I had never before seen an oil-lubed compressor with a set of wheels. I knew that at some point I was going to need to move the 4.5 gallon air compressor and the idea of having wheels made the thought much easier.

From the minute I opened the box I knew I had made the right decision in going with the Dewalt D55146 because I wheeled it right over to the garage. I turned on the compressor and started working right away. I had read a few air compressor reviews that stated this Dewalt model was a bit too loud for a closed space but I did not find that to be true at all. I was running it with the doors closed and it wasn’t too hard to deal with and I didn’t feel like I needed to wear my ear protection. I do think that if I was going to use it for a long period of time that I would go ahead and put on my protection just as a standard safety precaution. Of course, this is not to say that this unit is quiet. It is to be expected that such an increase in power over cheaper pancake air compressors will result in louder operation. For all the advances in technology today, this cannot be helped.

This 4.5 gallon air compressor has a great turn around time. I have used it all the way up until the inital charge is gone and it doesn’t take time to reload. The ability to store the Dewalt D55146 upright saves tons of space in my garage. I was worried about leaking because of the oil but it has never caused a single spot. As with any oil lubricated engine you need to make sure you take care of the oil viscosity and keep things full. You will blow out the engine quite quickly if you let it run dry.

I know this compressor is slightly more expensive than some of the others on the market, but you are paying for the Dewalt name and the quality, and the best air compressor for those who want power but who also need their air compressor in more than one place. In general, I have never had any trouble with any of my Dewalt products and I always count on them to last a long time. This is why I am willing to pay a little bit more as I feel like over time my price per year goes down significantly. I haven’t had this compressor that long yet, but it runs the same as the first day I used it and I think it will continue on those lines until I am done. The pressure is consistent and I have never had trouble getting nails at exactly the same depth, though I do recommend checking your pressure with the materials before you commit. I have split wood before because my pressure was too high.

Makita Air Compressor MAC2400

Makita Air Compressor MAC2400Amongst the air compressor reviews that you might see online, it seems there is often a divide in the tool world between “Makita” people and “Dewalt” people but in the case of the MAC2400, there are many people who are devout Dewalt fans, but who end up buying this Makita air compressor due to some of the glowing reviews this particular model has received, in addition to its heavily discounted price. Of course, in the age-old struggle between Dewalt and Makita, there is likely going to be a section on each side whose minds cannot be changed. However, the reality is that both companies produce quality tools, therefore in the case of a pump for pneumatic tools, it’s all about finding the best air compressor for your individual needs, and that “best” model can be different depending on who you are and the jobs you need to do. For example, many people who are highly sensitive to loud sounds favor the Makita MAC2400 because they can use it in their home or garage without going deaf. Therefore, not only can this unit handle all the wrench, nail and staple pneumatic tools you throw at it, you can keep it close by without feeling like my ear drums are being blown out.

Buy the Makita MAC2400 on Amazon today and save $194.60 off the list price!

The MAC2400 includes the following:

  • Oil lubricated engine for a cooler running system that minimizes wear on the engine
  • Removable outer shell for easy maintenance
  • Cast iron cylinder increases pump life and gives the parts added protection
  • Built-in shut off valve for motor overload, helps protect the life of the Makita air compressor
  • 1 year warranty on the product
  • Large air filter for more intake of air, resulting in greater efficiency
  • 2.5 horsepower for maximum output
  • Pressure ranges from 0 to 130 psi
  • A twin-stacked tank of 4.2 gallons
  • Noise level ranks at 79dB
  • Weighs 77 pounds

The Makita air compressor is not light, but it is not meant to be. This is a truly oil lubricated device meant to stand the test of time, which means making it out of solid parts that can keep their integrity for years to come. The fact that this is an oil lubricated unit gives it a longer life than pancake air compressors however there is regular oiling required with oil lubricated air compressors which many people find annoying. The best air compressor for endurance purposes simply cannot be a pancake model, however many people find that the most convenient as it does save them time despite the lower life-span of such units. As for the construction of the Makita MAC2400, I find many tools today are made with cheap plastic and break quickly. It was important for me to find something made out of real metal that would be solid when I was working. Many of the pancake compressors are light and are perfect if you need to tote them around a lot, but that was not my goal when purchasing the Makita MAC2400.

I was incredibly surprised at the recovery time on the Makita air compressor. After doing some more research, I believe it is capable of quick turnaround because the compressor is bigger than it needs to be for the tank size and that means I can work as fast as I would like without getting shorted on pressure. It makes many projects go much faster. I also have found that the torque this can handle on wrenches is greater than most small compressors.

I really like how big the air filter is. My workshop area tends to be quite dusty and I have blown out engines on other machines because junk so easily gets into the gears. This air filter on the Makita air compressor keeps all the damaging particles from getting anywhere near the moving parts. That coupled with the overheating protection has saved me from blowing out this machine a number of times and gets major kudos from me regarding the design excellence.

Despite the large size, I have taken this compressor up the stairs a few times. While I would not want to have to lug it around on a daily basis, the handle is strong and you can move it around fairly easily. I would suggest getting help if you aren’t sure you can handle the weight because you will easily damage walls if you bump up against them or if you drop the compressor. Try moving it a short distance before going for the long route.

Dewalt Air Compressor

Dewalt Air CompressorI needed a compressor for using my pneumatic tools around the house and I have always preferred the Dewalt brand name, so when I saw the Dewalt air compressors online I was immediately leaning towards them. After reading a long list of air compressor reviews, I went with the Dewalt compressor that is oil-free, considered a pancake setup, because I don’t have huge compression needs. Truthfully, the 500 hours the engine is rated for is more than I could use in my lifetime. What I needed was power and a way to do little tasks like crown molding, baseboards and tire filling around the house. I like the compact size because I can take it to all the rooms without much trouble and I have gone over to my parent’s house to fix things. It easily goes in the back of the truck and the Dewalt air compressor sits there safely.

Buy the yellow Dewalt air compressor now on Amazon and save 46% off the list price!

Features of the D55140:

  • Heavy Duty design for stability during use and a protective roll cage
  • Cast iron construction for strength and dependability
  • Does not come with a hose and nailer
  • 135 PSI maximum oil-free pump with a 2.6 amp motor
  • Only nine inches wide
  • Weighs 24 pounds for easy lifting
  • 1 year warranty included on this model
  • Quiet rating coming in below 69dB
  • Rubber feet to help protect the floor and keep the machine still
  • Heavy duty dials for easy reading and long-lasting workability
  • Rated for 500 hours
  • Fast refill time, so little lag between spots

I wasn’t sure if the Dewalt air compressor would be able to keep up with my speed. Even though I only need it for small jobs, I am a fast worker but I was pleased with the response time. I am able to work as quickly as I want to with the same pressure every time. Unlike other more “stacked” pancake like compressors, this one is square and very low profile. I find it incredibly stable and easy to use. Dewalt is always good about placement of handles and thinks about portability when putting together a design. I think they did that with the Dewalt compressor very well.

I like the roll cage they have put on it. I don’t think the machine could ever tip over when you are using it, but it did take quite a tumble in my truck when I took a corner too fast. A nice reminder to always tie things down, but I was shocked to see there wasn’t a knick on the Dewalt air compressor and all the dials worked fine with no cracks or damage. I guess it was my own little crash test for the machine.

Now, if you’re looking for industrial strength power, this Dewalt unit won’t be the best air compressor for you, but for normal use in the home it is perfect. I was still shocked by how quiet this compressor is. Most compressors need to be used with ear protection, especially if you are going to run them a lot. I was able to use this compressor in one room and the kids couldn’t even hear me on the other side of the wall. I never expected that kind of sound limitation even from a Dewalt project. I think my drill is louder than the Dewalt compressor!

Be sure you know why you are getting an air compressor. If you have bigger jobs, look at the larger Dewalt models. Dewalt is a big enough brand name that they offer an entire range of air compressors, from small portable units all the way to large, very powerful models with industrial pumping capabilities. You don’t want to get something that is too small for your needs as you will just burn out the engine and be displeased. At the same time, if you get something too big, you could end up not only wasting a lot of money, but you might also be prevented from completing tasks in locations which require a smaller, portable air compressor. Finally, be prepared to invest in a few hoses and couplers for your tools. You can blow the edges out if you are not careful, so having a back-up is always important.

Porter Cable C2002 Pancake Air Compressor

Porter Cable C2002 Pancake Air CompressorThis small compressor, the Porter Cable C2002 is one of the best air compressors for general home improvements and portable pneumatic tools. Its light weight means that it is possible to cart it around and do all the small jobs around the house without causing unnecessary distress or requiring additional work to position the unit correctly. It is even light compared to other portable compressors and for this reason it is often favored over portable Makita models among a great number of air compressor reviews online. The C2002 can quickly fix a small problem and there have been very few reports of engine failure (most air compressor reviews for the C2002 report high reliability despite its small size). The pressure on the Pancake air compressor is more consistent than expected of such a small unit, meaning that it can be used for the very finishing touches of projects where perfection is most often strived for. Thus, home users will find the C2002 more than sufficient for their requirements. In addition, while it is common for building contractors to utilize huge air compressors for extremely big jobs, there is also a requirement for a portable air compressor which can help to complete the more intricate projects, and this is where the best air compressor is not always the most powerful.

Buy it now on Amazon for and make $172.05 savings off the list price!

Key features of the Porter-Cable C2002 Pancake Air Compressor:

  • Holds 150 psi maximum tank pressure, storing more air in the tank for longer running times of tools
  • Quick compressor recovery time at 90psi
  • Six-gallon tank in the pancake shape for stability
  • Rubber feet to protect floors no matter where you set the machine
  • Low-amp motor that easily starts in the cold
  • Oil-free pump to limit maintenance on the machine
  • Weights 34 pounds

Yes, you can use the C2002 all over the home for any pneumatic tool you are using. However, this pancake air compressor is also a great thing to take with you if you are going out four wheeling or other places where you might pop a tire or need to be able to re-inflate the tires on toys such as quads or motorcycles. The built in pressure gauge on the Porter Cable pancake compressor allows you to constantly know where you are at when it comes to pressure. Other compressors I have owned have easily blown out tires or caused more damage than they were worth.

I was worried about the Porter Cable C2002 because it is an oil-free machine. I tend to use my compressor a lot and even though I have bigger options in my shop, I had heard from a number of air compressor reviews that pancake compressors didn’t last very long. I have owned the Porter air compressor for a few years now and I love that I don’t have to do any maintenance on the motor and it still purrs the same as the day I got it. Now, don’t get me wrong. The Porter Cable C2002 is not a catch all when it comes to compressors. This is meant for small, simple jobs. I still have a bigger compressor for when I need more power.

I do wish the company had consulted with someone else before they placed the valve outputs on the Porter Cable C2002. I loved the idea that this could handle two hoses and I wouldn’t always having to be changing out the coupler. Both the valves are located incredibly close to the gauges, which is not the most convenient place for them and it makes them difficult to change. I have gotten used to it, but it was a bit of a pain when I first got the machine.

The Pancake air compressor is a bit loud, which might not make it the best air compressor if you already have bad or sensitive ears, but to be honest this is standard for all oil-free systems. You just are not going to get the quiet engine you can if you get a heavier, more complicated model. I find the Porter Cable C2002 to be quiet than many other similar pancake models. Overall this machine has always run my tools efficiently and effectively and I trust that it will start every time I need it. When it comes to tools these are the most important factors to me and I can easily recommend this Pancake air compressor to others. I would buy this machine again without giving it a second thought, and I even paid full price!

Senco PC1010 Air Compressor

Senco PC1010 Air CompressorAs a general contractor, I keep many different types of compressors on hand. There are different needs for different jobs so I can never count on just one compressor to handle everything and the Senco PC1010 air compressor seemed like a great option for a portable pump. I have never seen one that was only 20 pounds before and being able to move this pump around quickly, makes it my favorite pump for finishing jobs. I tend to have to go from room to room at the end of a job and it doesn’t kill me to move the Senco air compressor multiple times in one day.

There are some precautions you should take before buying a small, portable air compressor like this Senco model, if you’re using it in construction or industry. Basically, you need to use it on those small, fiddly jobs which are no more demanding than home DIY. My company builds a lot of houses so we need small portable pneumatic tools for use all over the new home, and this is where portable units such as the Senco PC1010 are the best air compressors for powering such tools, since the air compressor needs to be equally portable as the pneumatic tool itself. For very large applications, that is, jobs that would require power far beyond the scope of home use, we use larger air compressors that we get from specialist suppliers. I tend not to read air compressor reviews online as the specialist gives me free advice when I buy (he actually recommended the Senco PC1010 for small jobs and that’s how I came about it).

Buy the Senco PC1010 air compressor on Amazon today and make a 17% saving off the list price.

Essential features of the Senco PC1010:

  • Compact size for easy portability
  • Delivers 20 to 44 drivers per minute depending on your needs
  • One year warranty
  • Weighs only 20 pounds
  • Aluminum cylinder allowing the compressor to last for years
  • 128 second pump up time with 35 seconds to recover
  • Lubeless pump and direct drive motor
  • 1/4 inch universal coupler and air filter

The Senco compressor works very well and its compact size allows me to throw it in the truck along with a larger compressor so I have options when I am on site. This is the compressor I tend to use in my own home because I can run up the stairs with it or take it out to the backyard. It is fairly quiet and so easy to use, I even let my kid use it for his small projects.

I do find that it loses a little power at the end of its pressure cycle. I sometimes have to finish in a few nails. This doesn’t bother me because the Senco PC1010 keeps such a constant air pressure during the rest of the cycle. I find that the nails are all exactly the same. I don’t split wood or materials because the Senco air compressor allows you to set the pressure to a pretty precise level. My larger air compressors are not as consistent as this one, making it even better for the finishing tasks because I know I won’t ruin the look of everything with one wrong push.

A typical pancake compressor, you don’t have to worry about oiling the gears or keeping up with that type of maintenance. This made me worry about how long the Senco air compressor would last, but I find that it has lasted quite awhile and I don’t hear anything that leads me to believe it will fail any time soon. I have had pancake compressors in the past that start making clunking sounds after just a year, this one still purrs along just as I did the day I got it.

You do need to make sure you work in the confines of what a small compressor like the Senco PC1010 is made for. This is not meant to be use to put up a whole house frame or incredibly large projects. If you use your common sense you will know that of course the Senco PC1010 isn’t the best air compressor to build an entire hospital or new school with. This is the compressor you use for small parts of the project and to wander around and put the finishing touches on things. Having to refill and work within the pressure limitations is not appropriate for the larger parts of a project. If you see any bad PC1010 air compressor reviews, they are probably put up by those who are trying to get the little machine to do a bit too much. If you work within the limits of the compressor and get it for its portability you will be very pleased with the amount of work the Senco PC1010 can do.

Makita MAC700

Makita MAC700You need to know what you are expecting from an air compressor before you can narrow down the field, but for almost all general uses the Makita MAC700 is a good choice. The motor is quite quiet for an air compressor, meaning you can use it even when people are sleeping in the house without worrying about waking everyone. The stable, upright design helps keep the MAC700 firmly placed on the ground. The oil-lubricated engine takes a little more attention than some of the “pancake” type air compressors but it will last longer overall and is part of why the motor is so quiet when it runs.

The only situation in which the MAC700 might not be recommended is heavy duty industrial and construction projects, which would probably require more powerful, specialized equipment. In such cases, simply reading a few air compressor reviews online is not sufficient. You should instead ask the advice of construction specialists who can consider your project carefully and recommend the best air compressor for that specific project. In some cases, the MAC700 may still be appropriate, but we repeat, you must seek the advice of a qualified specialist beforehand. With that being said, for use of your DIY pneumatic tools around the house, the MAC700 is perfect.

Purchase the Makita MAC700 on Amazon today to save over $100 off the list price.

The MAC700 includes the following features:

  • Weighs 52 pounds, making it a little heavy to cart around but still portable
  • Runs at a pressure range from 0-130PSI
  • At 90 psi it is 3.3cfm and at 40 psi it is a 3.8cfm
  • Oil lubricated motor
  • 2 horsepower motor
  • 2.6 gallon tank
  • Cast iron pump delivering maximum performance with piston and a big bore cylinder
  • 1720 RPM pump for greater displacement at a lower RPM so that the motor is quiet
  • Low amp draw helps make sure you don’t blow breakers and keeps the motor healthy for longer
  • Cool running pump
  • One year manufacturer’s warranty
  • 1/4 inch quick coupler
  • Oil drain and sight glass located for easy access and maintenance

At first I thought I was going to go with a pancake compressor, but after looking into the durability of the motors I began looking into oil based motors as the compressors seem to have a longer life span. I was intimidated by the Makita MAC700 because it weighs so much and I wouldn’t be able to get it up and down the stairs by myself. Then I went and picked up a few motors and realized it is weighted well and the handle works to tote it around. I wouldn’t want to carry it around a lot, but it works great on the rare occasion I need to do stuff upstairs.

In the garage the MAC700 is a beast. I can use it with all my various compressor tools as well as fill tires and make sure the pressure is correct. The pressure on my tires fluctuates because of the vast temperature differences in the area and since I have been able to keep on top of the pressure level, my tires are wearing more evenly and I am getting better gas mileage.

I really love the suction feet on the Makita MAC700 as I tend to be a bit clumsy. My garage is full of junk and it is easy for me to trip and knock things over. The Makita stays in place and it is quite sturdy. It also stays put when I put it in the back of my truck. I have been able to take it with me on road trips or to a friend’s house to do work together. I find this compressor very easy to transport and work with no matter what the situation.

The air filter assembly is easy to understand and put together. While you don’t have to use the Teflon tape, I would recommend it as otherwise it does seem to leak a little bit. The extra seal makes it run smoothly. I find the pressure to be incredibly consistent; I have not had any issue with “weak” or “inaccurate” pressure points. This means that the finishing nails always hit at the right place and don’t leave unnecessary dents or divots in my materials. At first it was difficult for me to make much sense of all the MAC700 air compressor reviews I was seeing, because many people used it for applications that I did not need, and hence their reviews were quite irrelevant to me. However there are still many people out there who describe their experiences with the specific functions that you want to perform, e.g. filling tires, using pneumatic drills and so on, so that if you spend enough time reading the air compressor reviews you will find the best air compressor for your individual needs. In the case of the Makita MAC700, it is a prime candidate for one of the top air compressors for use around the home and garage, but if you’re looking to use it in a large construction project or industry, you should check with an expert first, who might recommend that you use something completely different.

Porter Cable Air Compressor

Porter Cable Air CompressorIf you need an air compressor for your pneumatic tools, HVAC systems or any other household or industrial uses, but you don’t want to read hundreds of air compressor reviews to get the best one, the Porter Cable air compressor is generally a safe option providing quality, light-weight air compression for the vast majority of small jobs. The Porter Cable compressor is one of the lightest on the market so it is very easy to move it around the house, workshop or factory and you don’t have to deal with a heavy machine that does a bunch of things you never use. While this compressor is not made to handle a large construction job, the small nature of its design makes it more appealing for those who like to carry a compressor in their truck or for uses in and around a job or home.

Buy the Porter-Cable C2002-WK on Amazon today and get a 50% saving off the list price!

The Porter-Cable C2002-WK has a wide range of features:

  • High-Flo air regulator to help prevent pressure drop
  • 2.6 SCFM at 90 psi gives you a quick recovery time so you can work more quickly
  • 6-gallon “pancake” tank for added stability. The low profile and wide stance keeps it solidly on the rubber feet
  • Air coupler and plug come installed by the factory on the air hose itself preventing leaks.
  • Water drain valve for safety
  • Made for easy cold weather starts
  • 120-volt motor of low amp will start easily and can run plugged in or independently
  • Oil-free pump for lower maintenance requirements
  • 150 psi max tank pressure holds more air than most compact compressors allowing for longer tool usage without refill
  • Weighs 34 pounds
  • Handle, shroud and console hard cover case to protect the compressor and make it easier to carry
  • Motor comes with replaceable brushes for extending how long the motor will last
  • 13 piece accessory kit complete with plugs, 25 feet of nylon hose, tire gauge, blow gun tire chuck, quick coupler and Teflon tape

You will not find a better compressor for portability on the market than the Porter Cable air compressor. This device makes it so easy to do anything in the house you won’t put off your little projects any longer. 34 pounds might sound like a lot to some, but many of the larger compressors weigh 60 plus. If you do want to put it in the back of your truck, make sure you secure it well as it does like to roll around if you make a sharp turn or sudden stop. The main advantages of portability over raw power are surprisingly significant when you approach those small, tricky jobs which cannot be completed with a larger, more fixed air compressor. This Porter Cable unit may not be the best air compressor in raw power terms, that is certain, however what it does have is the mobility to provide you with the pressurized air that you need in almost any location you want. For example, I perform DIY all over the house and frequently require pneumatic tools, especially my nail gun, in the most awkward of places. I can just take this Porter Cable air compressor wherever I need it without a thought as to whether my tool will reach X or Y location. The only problem I had was with my loft as I had to take it up the wooden ladder which was a bit tricky, but you will encounter such problems with any tools you try to bring into the loft if you don’t have a staircase leading to it.

The Porter Cable compressor runs all my home tools and I can get my projects done more quickly than ever. The 6 gallon size tank keeps me from having to refill the tank all the time so I get more work done without wasting time taking trips multiple places. The accessory pack is perfect, especially the fact that it includes 2 hose couplers. It never fails that with most compressors you have to go buy another coupler because you need it at both ends and with two you can easily lock it down at the jobsite or at home. I take it with me to my carpentry job as a finishing compressor. I don’t run the whole job on it, but rather move it around to work all my finishing touches. This has made my life significantly easier. I personally did not read any air compressor reviews before I bought this air compressor, I simply went with the well known Porter Cable brand name, and I guess I was lucky. Is it the best air compressor of them all? No, because you can get industrial ones for many thousands of dollars with so much more power. But for this price, and for general use in tricky places, this little unit has to be one of the leading air compressors without a doubt.

Despite its small size and portability, you shouldn’t be fooled as this model boasts a pretty sturdy design. I am willing to let others in the family use it without fear of them knocking it over and breaking pieces. The low profile makes it almost impossible to tip over and the rubber feet keep it firmly in place during use.
