Before I found this Hitachi air compressor I had no idea the Hitachi brand made an air compressor at all. This was despite the fact that I knew Hitachi to be well known for its electronics, but less so for its power tools. At first I wondered if I should stick it out for a brand that actually specializes in air compressors and/or power tools but as I read more, I realized I was going to get more value for my money by going with this type of machine. The EC12 Hitachi compressor is backed by the large Hitachi brand name which has been instrumental in providing me technical support further along the line. The only other two rivals that you should consider for a relatively small air compressor for home use would be Dewalt and Makita, although you should not be biased towards these two simply because they are slightly better known in the field of power tools, as opposed to consumer electronics like Hitachi. There is very little difference either way between the average air compressor reviews left for Hitachi air compressors as opposed to counterparts from Dewalt and Makita.

From the minute I took the Hitachi air compressor out of the box I was surprised. Despite its sturdy construction it was lighter than I thought it would be. I could easily see how I could tote this air compressor around without throwing out my back or causing any damage to the flooring and surrounding areas. I love the stability of the feet. The added bars underneath give it a wider base and make it sturdier than many of the other air compressors on the market. The Hitachi compressor comes with rubber feet that protect whatever surface you place the compressor on.
The rubber handle make the Hitachi air compressor easy to carry – the best air compressor to carry in all my pneumatic power tool experience. It is centrally weighted so that you don’t feel as though it is awkward to carry. I really love that the gauges face upwards. Many air compressors put them on the side, which seems like a good idea but it isn’t if you don’t have the compressor on a shelf of some sort. I tend to put the Hitachi air compressor on the ground so the upward facing dials allow me to easily see all the totals. I am able to monitor the pressure no matter what I am working on.
I do find that the regulator mounting makes it difficult to actually hook up two hoses at the same time. They are a little too close together in order to make it practical. I am hoping that on a later model they will fix this issue. I have knocked hoses off very easily and it makes quite the racket. I like how sturdy this machine is. The extended base keeps the vibration at a minimum. I have never had an air compressor that stays so solidly on the ground. I believe Hitachi has made a better air compressor motor and a better casing than some of the other, more popular brands. Again, I give credit to the wider base. I have never had a compressor that gave this added structural security and I believe it makes all the difference. I think Hitachi has found a way to make the air compressor easier to use and it isn’t even that loud. I do wish it was slightly quieter as I have heard ones that make less noise, but I think everyone expects noise when they are using compression tools!
